Each livestock building is accessible at ground level, where the piglets will be entered and where the muck is cleared. Outside of each building is a set of steel stairs on one gable end, which gives you access to the top walkway which runs central down the shed from one gable end to the other. From this platform, you can see 20 black pens set out all the way up the length of the building. Each pen will house 50 piglets and are sectioned off initially to only allow them only so much room to keep them warm. As the months go on and the piglets grow, the black board demonstrated above, will be moved further to the right to allow more and more room in the pen. This is until the pigs are big enough to be taking up the whole width of the building.The walkway above all the pens was designed and implemented to offer a simple solution to throwing hay into each pen, without the need to be opening and closing each one.

The walkway holds a hay bale trolley, which wheels down the walkway, allowing hay to be thrown down into each pen. The trolley can be reversed on to the platform at the top of the outdoor steel staircase, which then locks in place, ready for hay bales to be loaded onto the trolley.When it comes to livestock sheds, you may typically see timber cladding being used to clad the building, but with WB Daw & Son, they opted for Gailbreaker.
